INFORMATION CONCERNING THE PASSPORT BOOK

A passport is a document which allows its holder to cross the border and stay abroad. Moreover, it is a proof that its holder is of Polish nationality and may act as an identification document with respect to the data written in it.

A passport is an official document in the form of a book which has 40 visa pages + the card for personalization. The dimensions of the document are: 125 mm+/- 0,75 mm x 88 mm +/-0,75 mm. A book produced by the Polish Security Printing Works consists of the following parts:

COVER

The cover is crimson in color and has a characteristic pattern on its outside layer called the molet. The words Paszport, Passport, Passeport and Unia Europejska, Rzeczpospolita Polska and the image of an eagle wearing a crown placed in the middle part of the first page of the cover form the elements produced by means of the hot embossing with gold.

At the bottom of the cover there is a sign of a biometric passport.

ENDPAPER

The endpapers, which are glued directly to the cover, were made from a paper without any watermark or security thread. Two printing techniques were used in the production of endpapers: offset and intaglio.

CARD FOR PERSONALIZATION

A card for personalization is made as a multilayer structure consisting of paper and polycarbonate foil

A card for personalization is printed on both sides using the offset technique. The offset guilloche elements were made with iris printing. In the background there is microprinting: Rzeczpospolita Polska - Republic of Poland - Republique de Pologne. There is a two color drawing of the Wind Rose on the page intended for holder�s personal data, which is visible only in UV light.

Additionally, the page with the personal data includes elements that have been made in the silk-screen printing process: the words Rzeczpospolita Polska - printed with an optical variable ink and a drawing presenting the stylized letters RP visible in UV light.

In the upper left part of the page there is a partially demetallised hologram.

GLOSSARY

Pages 4-5 contain a glossary of terms used in the passport which were translated into 17 languages of the European Union (except for Polish, English and French the texts in these languages are printed directly on the pages).

VISA PAGES

The visa pages are printed by means of an offset technique on a protected paper with a multitone watermark and a security thread and are graphically individualized, which means that the graphic design of every page is different. The number of each page is included as an element of the graphic design. On the guilloche lines there is microprinting:Rzeczpospolita Polska, Republic of Poland, Republique de Pologne.

On the visa pages number 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, 11, 12, 15, 17, 19, 20, 23, 25, 26, 28, 31, 33, 34, 37, 38 there are graphic elements which are not visible in white light, but are visible in UV light. On the first page there is a black number of the document, which consists of two capital letters and seven digits, which glow in UV light.

MICROPROCESSOR

WThere is a contactless microprocessor in the back cover which enables saving and repeated data reading pursuant to Council Regulation (EC) No 2252/2004 of 13 December 2004 on standards for security features and biometrics in passports and travel documents issued by Member States, , the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), particularly to the requirements set forth in the document 9303 concerning the travel documents which can be read by machines (Machine Readable Travel Documents).
